Mission Statement:

The Allegheny Highlands Trail of Maryland is an association founded to promote and establish the Maryland portion of the Pittsburgh to Cumberland rail-trail on the former right-of-way of the Western Maryland Railway.

The Pathway to History

The Allegheny Highlands Trail, which is now completed, links the Washington DC to Cumberland C&O Canal Trail with a series of hiking and biking trails in Western Maryland that connect into Pennsylvania, creating a continuous trail of 380 miles from Washington to Pittsburgh.

Mr.Harold MacDonald is the ranger assigned to the Great Allegheny Passage of Maryland. Mr. MacDonald welcomes riders, patrols the trail, and protects the trail from misuse. We welcome Mr. MacDonald.

To report problems with the bike trail, 301-777-7112 is the number to call. If a rider sees someone damaging the trail, or sees a problem which must be addressed, such as a tree down across the trail or a wash out, this is the number to call. Tip: Put the number in your cell phone so that calls can be made in a timely manner if you carry your cell phone when biking or hiking. Thank You
