Important Notice-Ohiopyle State Park
Repair work to the High Bridge at Ferncliff on the Youghiogheny River Trail, a section of the Great Allegheny Passage, began Monday, January 9, 2006. The bridge will be closed Monday through Friday for the duration of the project. The bridge will be open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Saturdays, Sundays and on all state holidays.

Maryland
The Allegheny Highlands Trail of Maryland is now completed!

Somerset County, PA
Until the Bollman Bridge is moved, there is a detour at Scratch Hill Road. There are graded and graveled paths leading from the Great Allegheny Passage across Scratch Hill Road and then back up to the trail.

Big Savage Tunnel

The Big Savage Tunnel, near the Mason-Dixon Line, was reopened on April 9, 2006.

Allegheny County, PA
The long-term plan for the Southside Trail is to connect to the existing trail at the Waterfront in Homestead/West Homestead. At this point there are not construction plans because we need to work out agreements with private property owners. South Side 10-1 trail segment of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is now complete. Trail users are finally able to travel from the Baldwin Borough Trail through the South Side and to Station Square, downtown Pittsburgh and beyond. Work continues on the acquisition of trail corridor on the Steel Valley Trail section.

Montour Trail
All sections that were closed due to flood damage from Hurricane Ivan in 2004 are now open. There is a water line project taking place between mile post zero and approximately mile post three, but the trail will remain open. Temporary trail bypasses will be constructed as needed by the contractor. The Muse-Bishop Bridge is finished and the Montour-Panhandle Connector (mile 17.1) is graded and easily passable. Approximately 5/8 mile more trail will be at least graded and easily passable between Peters Township and the Library Trestle (Route 88).
